December + The Threshold of Stillness

A Somatic Reflection for Winter’s Arrival

December does not rush in.
It settles.
It lowers the light and asks you to listen more closely.

This is the month of thresholds — between years, between breaths, between what has been carried and what will not cross with you.
Nothing here is meant to bloom.
Everything here is meant to be held.

This month, we practice stillness without urgency.

Begin Here

Find a place where your body can be fully supported.
Lie down if possible. If seated, let your back and legs be held.

Notice:

  • Where does your body want to rest more deeply?

  • What feels tender but intact?

  • What are you no longer willing to push through?

Let the darkness be kind.

Move Intentionally

Movement in December is minimal and slow — almost invisible.

Try one or two:

  • Place one hand over your heart, one over your belly. Breathe slowly.

  • Gently press your feet or hands into the floor or chair, then release.

  • Allow a long exhale, as if fogging a mirror.

Move only enough to remind your body that it is safe to pause.

Rest + Integrate

Return to stillness.
Let time loosen its grip.

Ask softly:

  • What is allowed to remain unfinished?

  • What wants to cross the threshold with me into the next year?

Let these questions be companions, not tasks.

If You’d Like to Reflect

You might explore:

  • What did this year ask of me that I didn’t expect?

  • What am I proud of surviving quietly?

  • What kind of care will I need moving forward?

Let reflection be slow and gentle.

A Closing Blessing

May you rest without explanation.
May what is essential stay warm within you.
